MLP: FiM Pony Crochet Pattern (with Tutorial) by CuriousPony MLP: FiM Pony Crochet Pattern (with Tutorial) by CuriousPony

Hey guys! So I finally finished this after 6 months, I hope you enjoy it.
9/11/2013: Minor fix to st counts on the head.

Just the pattern: fav.me/d5qr6d3

12/4/13: Since I don't have any real mane or tail help or even a stallion head here, I'd like to recommend NerdyKnittedDesigns' patterns! She has some amazing patterns for sale if you're willing to spend a bit of money on a pattern! You can find all of them on Etsy: www.etsy.com/shop/NerdyKnitter… and Ravelry: www.ravelry.com/designers/the-…
Those patterns are much higher quality than this one anyway, but hey, get what you pay for, right? ;)

First off, I just wanted to say that I love this pattern, just finished mine after two sleepless nights and I love the outcome. Second, I was wondering if it would be okay to make these and sell them using this pattern? If not, that's fine, I just thought I would ask. Would hate to cause any problems. Thank you for your time and your wonderful pattern.

That's fine as long as those you are selling them to are also given the link back here. :)

I just wanted to thank you for this! I actually used the PERFECT head you have here for a chibi dino head.  I know, silly, but it's the PERFECT shape. ^_^  I don't want to spam unwanted links, but if you'd like to see what I did, I'll happily link you.  I just wanted to express my gratitude for your effort and willingness to share it.

Thank you! I'm so glad it was helpful!
I always enjoy getting links to what other people have made, but since it was your newest post, I already found it this time. :) It's adorable! Though I think the link to the image you based it on is broken, so you might want to check that.

Thanks so much for the pattern! A friend asked me to make aTwilight Sparkle for her 4yo daughter's birthday, and it was a big hit. I made her do the felt eyes and cutie mark herself because that is NOT my thing :)

Couldn't figure out how to upload a picture but here's my pin (with a link back to your lovely pattern, of course)

Hello! I am currently working through your lovely pattern and up til now haven't had a problem in the slightest following it. I had problems sewing the legs on but that's because I'm a perfectionist. However! I started work on the head portion tonight and ran into an issue with I believe Rnd 15. My stitch count is accurate but I didn't believe it, mainly because the round itself adds up to 51? Am I crazy? I end up with 52 stitches because I sc in the last 11 stitches instead of 10. And then the next row is 53 stitches? Thanks for the help!

Sorry about that, I fixed and reuploaded it. (Not sure how I missed such a blatant error in the first place though) What you did is correct, I'm sorry for causing confusion. Thank you so much for bringing this to my attention, if you come across any other problems please leave another comment or send me a note. :)
I'd love to see pictures when you're done!

So much work put into this tutorial! I loved the heckling MLP commentary. XD Makes it look a bit less intimidating. :) I will have to give this a go when I have some time! My husband loves MLP XD.

OMG I AM SO EXCITED! :squee:

Thanks!! :D
The heckling was kinda my way of maintaining sanity while rewriting the pattern into proper notation and figuring out what needed to be explained. After a while of thinking, "Will this make sense to other people?" jokes become necessary just to keep going.

I'd love to see pictures when you're done! :)

Holy cow! This is amazing! A lot of the crocheted/knitted plushies that I see on the internet aren't as show-accurate/good-looking as I would like, but this one is SO GOOD. I'm not a crocheter by any means (sewing is more my style), but my sister is, so i can understand all the work that was poured into this. And not only did you make a perfect plushie, but you made a pattern for anyone to use. I'll have to show this to my sister and (hopefully) get her to make one. Really, this is some amazing work.

Thank you so much! That means so much to me to hear. Yeah, I actually made it just because there were no patterns I could find that were show-accurate enough for my tastes and I figured I couldn't be the only one with this complaint. :) If she makes one, I'd love to see a picture.

This makes me wish I knew how to crochet. And I will post a picture if she does.

Approximately how long does it take to make?

Er, well, I only made the ones to create the pattern and that took me like six months working on it on and off. I don't know how good she is, but I think I could probably knock one out in a week or two if I actually focused and remembered to devote time to it everyday. Though I've been doing crochet most of my life so I'm pretty fast at it.

How tall is the finished plushie? (I can't wait to try this pattern out! :iconpinkiepieclapplz: )

Well, of course it can vary depending on your hook size, yarn weight, and gauge, but mine is 11 inches tall.

Also, I'd love to see a picture when you're done.

I finally started the beginning of June, and have 3 legs done. :D Also, do you know about how many yards of yarn this takes? (And I do need it in yards, please. Found a yarn on Etsy that I REALLY want to use, but I don't know if there's enough of it to make this. :crying:)

Well, the skein I used had 315 yards I think (at least the same brand in a different color does) and I remember having some left over, but also take into consideration your hook size and your gauge. I have a really tight gauge. Also, note I made a unicorn so if you're making a Pegasus I think there would still be enough but I'm not positive. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. Good Luck! :)

I thought your icon looked familiar... you run the Maple Star Toys blog on Tumblr don't you?

Also thanks for the awesome pattern! My friend and I like crochet but we had no idea how to make a pony... this explains everything in a way we, as fairly amateurish beginners, can understand!

And yep, that's my blog! Heh, I actually drew a post on it for the sole purpose of promoting this pattern a while back.

I may have seen it but not paid it much mind since I only recently got into crochet. My friend says she wants to try to make a plush for me but had no idea how to, so this'll be a great help!

Thank you!
I can' t really think of any more advice. All I can say is maybe do it with paper first to make sure they fit together properly, then trace around the pieces onto the felt. Even then I had to re-cut a few pieces that I messed up. Good luck making them! :)

No, I don't have any way to do that plus I don't want to get involved with the potential copyright issues. If someone else wants to use the pattern to make plushies to sell I don't care, just as long as they provide a link back here saying the pattern is free for anyone to use.
